Monero SeedSigner
An offline, airgapped Monero signing device you can build yourself from inexpensive, off-the-shelf parts.
What is it?
A hardware signer that keeps your Monero keys off any connected machine.
Monero SeedSigner is a fork of SeedSigner that runs on the very same hardware, with the Bitcoin features removed and Monero support put in their place. It generates and stores seeds entirely offline, on a device that has no radios and never touches the internet.
Everything the device needs comes in by scanning a QR code, and everything it produces goes back out as a QR code. Nothing else goes in or out.
How it keeps keys safe
Stateless and airgapped by design.
Nothing persists
Seeds live in memory only while the device has power. Pull the plug and everything is wiped.
Removable SD
The SD card can be removed after boot, so no secret data is ever written to it.
No radios
No WiFi and no Bluetooth hardware onboard โ there is no wireless path in or out.
QR-only I/O
Data comes in only by scanning QR codes with the camera, and leaves only on the screen.
Seed features
Full Monero seed handling, on-device.
- 25-word Monero seeds and 16-word Polyseeds.
- Create a seed from dice rolls or from camera-image entropy.
- Enter an existing seed with the on-device word-entry keyboard.
- Back up as words, with a word-by-word backup check.
- Back up as a Monero SeedQR (standard or compact), with a guided transcription view and a scan-to-confirm step. SeedQRs are type-tagged so they are never mistaken for another format.
- Show the primary address, as text and as a QR code.
Project status
Early, and moving.
Seed creation, entry, backup and verification all work today. Transaction signing is not implemented yet โ that is the next major piece.
Hardware
The same inexpensive parts as SeedSigner โ enclosure designs fit as-is.
Built on SeedSigner ยท MIT licensed ยท Monero SeedSigner is an independent project and is not affiliated with the Monero or SeedSigner projects.
The full source code will be published openly. Check back as development continues.
